Philippines - Sulubaaï Sea Academy +

Program for the consolidation and training of Eco-Guards and Eco-Guides for the Pangatalan Marine Park, in the province of Palawan in the Philippines.

The Sulubaaï Foundation, with which we collaborated in 2022 and 2023, has approached Plongeurs du Monde for a new program in the Province of Palawan, and more specifically on the island of Pangatalan in the Philippines.

Starting in January 2025, the Sulubaaï Foundation will be involved in the new “Sea Academy+” program, which aims to consolidate and extend the network of marine protected areas in Shark fin and Taytay bays, restore marine ecosystems, support fishermen in adopting more sustainable practices, raise awareness of marine conservation among the local population, particularly young people, and study the links between marine conservation and food security for local populations.

The partnership with Plongeurs du Monde will involve a new underwater diving training and certification program for underwater eco-guards, which should result in the certification of :

  • Underwater eco-guards: 12 to 14 marine protected area guards, some of whom are already Advanced Open Water Diver certified
  • Rescue Diver/EFR: 3 Foundation staff members
  • DSD Leader: 3 divemasters trained on previous missions
  • Advanced Open Water Diver: 5 to 6 scientists, government officials, citizens
